What really happens during recovery you ask?
Your body repairs damaged tissue and rebuilds your energy. Without sufficient time to repair and replenish, the body will continue to breakdown from intensive exercise... which will leave your body weak! All training regimens should have a recovery plan built in. This way you can stick to it and not feel so guilty on your days off.
Think of your body as a car. Routine maintenance is imperative to keep the car going. Oil changes make it run smoothly, Gas gives it energy to go, Brake changes to make it react quickly and you even give it a good wash to keep shining bright! If you stop doing the maintenance; the car stops and you start having all kinds of issues -- well your body is the same!
